Press CoverageHOUSTON CHRONICLE PEOPLE AND PLACES / Woodlands ballet to celebrate anniversary with Houston performance By JACKIE BARKER, Houston Chronicle Correspondent The Woodlands Civic Ballet , which is based at The Woodlands Recreation Center, is celebrating its 16th anniversary with a gala performance 8 p.m. Friday at the Wortham Theater in Houston. "From Russia With Love'' is a program of mixed repertoire, with excerpts from famous ballets by world-class Russian composers, including Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Stravinsky. The program will feature such favorites as "Swan Lake,'' "Sleeping Beauty,'' "Cinderella'' and "Firebird.'' Two hundred dancers, age 3 to 60, will take part in the dances. Forty dancers are at a pre-professional level. The Wortham seats 1,100, and Karyn Simon-Poland, artistic director of the troupe, expects a full house. "We are all excited to see our name flashing on the marquee alternating with the Houston Ballet ," she said. Tickets are $9.50. Call the ballet at 281-362-7271. |
