By JACKIE BARKER, Houston Chronicle Correspondent

The Woodlands Civic Ballet , which is based at The Woodlands Recreation Center, is celebrating its 16th anniversary with a gala performance 8 p.m. Friday at the Wortham Theater in Houston.

"From Russia With Love'' is a program of mixed repertoire, with excerpts from famous ballets by world-class Russian composers, including Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Stravinsky. The program will feature such favorites as "Swan Lake,'' "Sleeping Beauty,'' "Cinderella'' and "Firebird.''

Two hundred dancers, age 3 to 60, will take part in the dances. Forty dancers are at a pre-professional level.

The Wortham seats 1,100, and Karyn Simon-Poland, artistic director of the troupe, expects a full house.

"We are all excited to see our name flashing on the marquee alternating with the Houston Ballet ," she said.

Tickets are $9.50. Call the ballet at 281-362-7271.
